"Be patient with yourself. Self-growth is tender; it's holy ground. There is no greater investment."
-Stephen Covey
I have always been passionate about understanding the human experience. As I made my way through grad school, I realized that much of what I was learning was very “by the book”. Textbook approaches to healing, diagnoses, and labels. There are benefits to having structure in any field- I can tell you all about the brain and nervous system. But I have found myself also drawn to alternative methods- art, meditation, and breath work. At this point in my career, the two feel like they go hand-in-hand: the science, and the art of healing.
I am curious by nature. I love to learn- tell me what you are nerding out on lately! I am a person who leans into discomfort and allows life to take me where it is meant to go.
I believe in taking care of my mind, body, and spirit. I am an active person who loves to be outside exploring this beautiful state we call home. I camp, run, hike, and ski. I am a native Texan and love to travel. When I’m not working, you can find me spending down time at home with my cat Raz.
I believe my purpose is to help others as a guide as we do our best to navigate this crazy thing called life. We all possess the power to heal and discover our most authentic selves- and I can’t wait to help you get there.
I believe therapy is an art. As a creative person, I think relationships are all about balance. I show up with my clients as kind and nonjudgmental, but also directive. During sessions, I try to find warmth and playfulness while challenging people in an honest way. I think challenging others through compassion is the most caring act a person can do.
If I ask my clients to show up as real and authentic in this work, it is only fitting that I try my best to always do the same. No matter where our sessions take us, we will be real in this together.
My clients are seekers. They want connection even when it has felt scary or painful in the past. They believe in finding beauty where there has been pain and can laugh at the absurdities of life.
Our work together will focus on looking at these areas of life and finding meaning. I work to provide an easygoing but directive space to explore and honor whatever my clients are looking for. It takes courage to lower our walls, but there is so much joy on the other side.
I believe the root of all our problems- physical, emotional, and spiritual- can be traced back to how we connect with ourselves and the world around us. Or, how we don’t connect. How we self-isolate or put up walls to protect ourselves. We build walls around our hearts, sometimes because of past wounds or trauma, and find it difficult to connect with others. This creates loneliness- especially in a time where our individualist culture already breeds isolation.
I work through an attachment lens- meaning, what were the messages you learned from an early age about human relationships? Were people to be trusted, or not trusted? Did you feel safe and secure, or anxious? How did this affect your ability to express your needs? How about emotions?
Often we carry these “blue prints” into our adult life and they clash with our ability to self-regulate, navigate conflict, or communicate our needs to others. Sometimes we have to un-learn old habits and road maps in order to have fulfilling relationships.
There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to therapy. Although I am primarily an attachment therapist, I integrate many theories into my work, including Gestalt, Jungian, experiential, and Internal Family Systems.
